Guide for Conversions

1 - Engine Mounts. For engine mounts it's best to use the later VN-VS 'K' frame. This provides a bolt in application and compliance. It is best to purchase a complete 'K' frame from a VN- to VS Commodore including suspension and steering rack.

2 - Steering Universal. You have two options 1 (recommended) use the original Steering Column and adapt the VN-VS shaft to the Column. This is done by swapping the top part of the VB-VL steering shaft to the VN-VS shaft. First remove the separate the top (VN-VS) from the shaft at the rubber insulator, do the same with a VB-VL) shaft. Next fit the Top from the VB-VL onto the VN-VS shaft. Now its ready to install back in to the car. It may be necessary to adjust the steering column shaft length to make fit.

Second option is to fit the complete VN-VS steering column in to the car. This will require the column wiring to be adapted to the car. The Steering shaft will not require and modifications.

2-Tail Shaft. When purchasing the Engine and Trans for the conversion, include the tail shaft. It is necessary to get the right Tail shaft for the Transmission. Remove the front Half of the tail shaft at the flange on the Constant Velocity Joint from the VB-VL shaft. Do the same for the VN-VS shaft then fit front half to the rear half of the VB-VS shaft. It is always necessary to check the condition of the shaft parts and universals. When fitting un-matched parts it is good practice to get the shaft re-balanced.

3-Fuel System. The VN-VS fuel tank will fit the VB-VL body. This is the easy way to do this conversion. It is also necessary to fit a return fuel pipe from the engine to the tank.

4- Cooling System. The original VB-VL radiator can be used but it is recommended to upgrade to a heavy duty one.

5- Wiring loom and Computer. CAE Performance Products provide a range of options here. We have looms to suit all transmission options including Speedo and Tacho conversions, Speedo Cable conversions, Electronic to Cable adaptors, Fuel pumps and swirl pots and much more.

6-Exhaust System. CASTLE HEADERS provide headers to suit VR-VS Ecotec and VN-VP Non-Ecotec V6 engines. The headers are 3 into 1 design with mandrel bent tubes, 1 3/4in primaries and 10 mm Laser cut flange plates. They can also provide Hi-Flow Cat converters and all the parts to build you new exhaust system including Mufflers in Mild Steel or Stainless.
